Happy 20th Anniversary!

This year ~2010~, my husband and I are celebrating our 20th year in the floral business. We are so blessed to have Fitzgerald's Flowers & Gifts in our life!
Check out our website:
Everyday when I wake up, I thank God for so many blessings in my life~ my family, friends and for having such a wonderful "job" ...it's a dream job! I get to be surrounded with flowers, arrange them, have them delivered and I know it brings smile to a lot of people. When you find your passion and you are able to work with it (and get paid in the process), it's just awesome!
I am so grateful that I am in the business of making people happy!
And now, I am also busy with my other passion...creating handmade gifts. http://www.everythinganastacia.etsy.com/ Everything I do, I do it with love and passion...and it shows. =)

Homebaked Bagels

Just want to share...this past week end, I made some homebaked bagels...it's good! ( I don't sell bagels...lol)
It's really easy to make. Here's the RECIPE:

Bagel Dough ( I used the breadmachine )
1 C warm water ~ 80 deg F
1 1/2 TBSP Sugar
1 tsp Salt
3 C Bread Flour
2 1/4 tsp Active Dry Yeast

Glaze:
1 egg, beaten

Toppings ( optional):
Sesame seeds, Poppy seeds, etc.

1. Place dough on lightly floured surface. Divide into 8 pcs. Roll each into smooth ball, making a hole in the center of each with thumbs. Gently pull to make one inch hole.
2. Place on greased baking sheet. Cover & let rise in a warm place for about an hour, or until double in size.
3. In a saucepan, bring to a boil about 2 quarts water with 2TBSP sugar. Place a few bagels at a time in boiling water. Simmer 3 minutes, turning once. Remove with slotted spoon and put back on greased baking sheet.
4. Brush with egg and sprinkle with choice of toppings. Bake at preheated 400 deg F oven for 20-25 minutes or until done; cool on wire rack.
5. Enjoy.
4. Brush with egg and sprinkle

MORE PROJECTS

More decoupage projects that I've made. I'm happy to say, those trays were very well received...lots of good feedbacks, and already sold a few!

I also enjoyed making this "body form" decoupage. It is made of paper mache that I bought already in its form and just decoupaged it. The hardest part was choosing the color scheme...which I think spring colors turned out to be pretty! I'm naming her Emerald...my birthstone! The body form, I mean, Emerald, is about 16 1/2" tall, and with the stand from top to bottom, she's about 27 inches tall.

(A little how to's:) For the stand, I made a hole at the bottom of the mache, inserted a wooden dowel rod with hot glue at the end so it sticks inside of the neck. I made sure I measured the dowel so that only 1/2'' sticks out of the form. Then I hot-glued the other end to an unfinished wood decorative candle stick (which was nailed onto a wood cut out for balance). I then hot-glued on a wood finial on the top of the neck; these wood pieces were all finished with antique gold acrylic paint before putting them onto the body form.

GOOD FINDS

These are the pretty vases and baskets I found while doing some spring cleaning. They've been in the storage all these years. They are just beautiful and in very good condition!

The cute vases must have been perfume bottles or something.

Friday, April 2, 2010

Wow... it's April already! Whatever happened to March? Boy, time just zoomed by so fast!
I have been busy with a lot of things...spring cleaning, for one! I love spring cleaning, at home and at the flower shop; "dejunk" and "destash" are my 2 favorite words lately. Going crazy putting things away---categorizing them: to keep, to donate, to sell and to throw away. It's not that easy for me...my ADHD usually acts up, as when I see something, say some pretty baskets, instead of just putting it away, I would then look for something that will look pretty in it, whether permanent botanicals or maybe pretty craft (how-to) magazines. Or if I see an old photo, instead of just putting it in my photo box, I would start a page and start scrapbooking! Well, you know what I'm saying.

Anyway, I saw this pretty basket with a lid, it's been in the back here somewhere at the flowershop. Hmm...I thought it would just be perfect to put my ribbons, laces, pearls strings and other embellishments for my card making. Then, guess what, I started making cards! Well, here are some. I hope you like them. They're available for purchase at the flowershop
(Fitzgerald's Flowers & Gifts 562/927-1467).
Okay, I better get back to cleaning. Until my next post!
